It is exciting times for locals and holiday-makers with lots of change ahead for the Mooloolaba region, including the $100M Wharf Upgrade and the Mooloolaba Foreshore master plan being implemented.
It will not be all smooth sailing however as it has been reported this week that the State Government has urged the Sunshine Coast Council to give serious consideration to amending its Mooloolaba Foreshore plans to include the caravan park in the final development. This seems highly unlikely with the beachfront caravan park having had its lease expire on June 30 and now becomes the site for a complete revamp of the Foreshore.
Initially the council intends to use the site for car parking during construction of a new Brisbane Road car park and down the track incorporate the space in some form as part of the Mooloolaba Foreshore master plan. The State Government has provided permission for the Sunshine Coast Council to use the space that was the Caravan Park as a temporary car park until July 2019, yet no decisions have been made as to the sites use post July 2019.
There has been significant support from the local community for the Place Making Mooloolaba Master Plan, and to see the Esplanade and Foreshore be upgraded to accommodate more people visiting the region.
